Antonio Cardone
Primary tabs
Antonio Cardone is an assistant research scientist at UMIACS.
He joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology in October 2005 as a postdoctoral guest researcher. Cardone's current research focuses on developing techniques for protein 3-D structure modeling and analysis, protein molecular dynamics, and molecular trajectories’ analysis.
He is also working on 2-D image segmentation and motion tracking techniques and on image texture analysis with application to cell biology. Some of Dr. Cardone’s research is carried out in cooperation with the Enzyme Chemistry Section of the Laboratory of Neurochemistry at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes.
Cardone’s research interests are CAD/CAM, feature-based geometric modeling, computational geometry, image processing, proteomics, protein 3-D structure modeling, and molecular dynamics techniques.
Cardone is currently Principal Investigator on a Grant titled "Computer-based measurements in material and medical science", funded by the National Institute of Standard and Technology. His Geometry-Based Search Software (GBSS), built in collaboration with Satyandra K. Gupta, a former Professor in the university's Department of Mechanical Engineering, and M. Schwartz, was a finalist in the information science category for the University of Maryland Office of Technology Commercialization Invention of the Year Award in 2007.
Cardone has reviewed articles for established international journals, such as Computer Aided Design and Journal of Computing & Information Science in Engineering.
He received his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland in 2005, and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering with a major in robotics at the University of Napoli, Italy, in 2000.
